The Ticor Building on Wilshire was visited, and with the assis-
tance of Mr Mark Fox, a reference to the Good Templars Orphanage in
Vallejo was found in the index of the California History Quarterly.
Mr H Clay Needham is bel.ieved to be a founder of this Lodge. His
granddaughter was contacted and asked for information. She replied
with a brief history of the Order. A copy of Mr Needham's affili-
ation with the Kansas Lodie, and a rare old Insurance Policy,
giving the date and location on Pine Street. .
Comment
The California Historical Society has in their files other items
of interest to us. However, there is no Santa Clarita Valley
folder. The information will be found in the San Fernando Valley
and Antelope Valley, folders.
The folders on specific categories, such as Railroads, Oil, Agri-
culture, Mines, etc .
It was stated a file on other historical collections is available.
Should we list our Curators collection?
Recommendation
In the letter of thanks to Mr Needham's family, we should request
further information on his public service and political career.
The old Insurance policy should be sent to the State archives for
preservation and lamination.
The Prohibitionist Party as well as the Vallejo Orphanage records
should be researched.
The Historic Point of Interest Papers should be filed.
VI. NEWHALL JAIL
The owner was contacted for information; he will furnish what is
available when he has time to locate information.
Recommepdation
A follow up call; the new tax bills will have the legal.
VII. MITCHELL HOME
A letter to the Shaffer Land Co Preservation was suggested.
VIII. SULPHER SPRINGS. SCHOOL
A letter should be sent to the appropriate parties, suggesting
action on the preservation.
Miscellaneous Datum
A list of noteworthy historic points in the Santa Clarita Valley
was sent to Mr Tom Sitton at the Los Angeles County Museum of
Natural History. This information was to be used by Los An~eles
County in their survey for th~ State of California History ~lan.
