"Little Yankee Girl"
Marcus Abad (Tony Alamo)

Marcus Abad. Mark Hoffman. Bernie Lazar Hoffman (his real name). Santa Claritans know him as Tony Alamo, the cult leader, tax evader and child sex trafficker who failed to complete his 175-year prison term in 2017.

Tony Alamo (b. 1934) suffered many delusions even before he established his "Holy Alamo Christian Foundation" compounds in Sleepy Valley (Mint Canyon) and Arkansas — among those being that he was a famous singer and that "Little Yankee Girl" was a big hit.

As for the phony, high-pitched, quasi-English accent he uses here, all we can think is that 1964 (when this rare 45-rpm record was produced) was the height of the British Invasion. He used his normal voice on the "B" side.

"1937," seen here, is a catalog number, not a year.

"Little Yankee Girl" is written by "B. James," a pseudonym for Bobby Jameson. Jameson (1945-2015) was a flash-in-the-pan singer-songwriter in the mid-1960s who got heavily into drugs and was long thought to be dead but actually was living quietly in San Luis Obispo County where he got off drugs and lived to age 70.

The producer is Kim Fowley (1939-2015), who pushed out novelty and cult pop singles (a different meaning of "cult") in the 1960s, such as "Alley Oop" and "Cherry Pie," and represented the Runaways in the 1970s. He also co-wrote songs for KISS, Helen Reddy, Alice Cooper, Leon Russell and Kris Kristofferson, among others.

45-rpm record purchased 2018 by Leon Worden from a vendor in the UK.
