Webmaster's note.

Placerita gold discoverer Francisco Lopez was born March 9, 1802. His son was born March 9, 1825. He discovered gold March 9, 1842.

Mission records show Francisco was baptized as a newborn at Mission San Gabriel. They don't show when he married Maria Antonia Felis. Francisco was not yet 21 when his daughter was born at the Santa Barbara Presidio, where he was stationed as a soldier. Before reaching age 2, the girl died at Mission San Fernando, where Francisco's military commission had been transfered. When Francisco and Maria's son came along several weeks later and was baptized at Mission San Gabriel, the couple was living in the Pueblo de Los Angeles.
