December 1989 — Grand opening of Canyon Country Park at 17615 Soledad Canyon Rd. It was the first new park built and opened by the City of Santa Clarita, which incorporated two years earlier (Dec. 15, 1987).

From left: Parks Commissioners Linda Storli and Laurene Weste in front, Jeff Wheeler and Todd Longshore in back; City Councilman Howard "Buck" McKeon; Mayor Jo Anne Darcy; City Councilman Dennis Koontz; State Sen. Cathie Wright; City Councilwoman Jan Heidt; developer Jack Shine; Parks Director Jeff Kolin.

Darcy became mayor Dec. 12, 1989, so this would have to be the second half of December. If it were before Dec. 12, Heidt (who preceded Darcy as mayor) would be cutting the ribbon.
