Newhall Fourth of July Parade, 1959. Five minutes of (silent) film shot by Laura Mehterian, courtesy of her daughter Cathy Martin.

Watch for Lassie (near the beginning) and The Shaggy Dog (near the end). Their television series and 1959 motion picture, respectively, filmed down the road at The Walt Disney Co.'s Golden Oak Ranch in Placerita Canyon.

The Mehterians lived on the historic Ruiz property in San Francisquito Canyon. They purchased the 40-acre parcel in 1956 (including the Ruiz Cemetery site) and lived in the Ruiz ranch house, which had been rebuilt in 1932. They sold the property to the Keatleys in 1974, when Cathy graduated from Hart High. The Keatleys subdivided the property in two, selling the cemetery portion to the Ponton family, while retaining the former Ruiz house as their home.
