SPECIAL DISPATCHES TO THE EVENING WORLD.
THE CAPTURE OF VASQUEZ CONFIRMED!
NO QUESTION AS TO HIS IDENTITY.
Severely but not Mortally Wounded.
He Denies Participating in the Tres Pinos Massacre.
Is in Good Spirits and Receiving Company all Day.
Los Angeles, April 15, 1873 [sic].
Night before last Sheriff Rowland, acting under the information of D.K. Smith, fitted out a party consisting of Under Sheriff Albert J. Johnson, Major H.M. Mitchell, E. Harris, F. Hartley, Samuel Bryant, D.K. Smith, W.E. Rodgers and G.A. Beers and started for "Greek George's" place, on the Brea Ranch, some ten miles from this city, where the noted bandit was reported lurking about.
They returned last evening, having succeeded in capturing Vasquez and two of his party in a house. In the effort Vasquez received several shots, none of which will prove fatal. Seven balls have already been extracted from his body. Two of his gang were captured with him. The officers secured a large quantity of fire-arms of the latest and most approved patterns.
There is no question here as to his identity, and he does not conceal his true character, except that he was not concerned in the Tres Pinos massacre. He is in good spirits, converses freely, and is receiving company all day.
The exact location of the rest of the gang is not at present made known to the public; but it is believed the officers are on the right trail, and but little doubt is entertained of the capture of the entire party.
Great excitement and much rejoicing is indulged in here over the success of Sheriff Rowland's party.
