Timothy Ben "TimBen" Boydston (b. Aug. 12, 1955). Resident of Newhall (Princess Homes). Santa Clarita City Council member, 2006-2008 (appointed) and 2012 to present (elected).

[City of Santa Clarita 2013] — TimBen Boydston came to the Santa Clarita Valley as a boy with his family in 1960. He attended Sulphur Springs Elementary school, Placerita Jr. High school, and graduated from Canyon High School. After serving his country in the United States Air Force for four years, he attended College of the Canyons where he completed classes needed to earn an Associates’ degree in Medical Technology from Midwestern University. He then transferred to CSUN where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre.

With an interest in business, after two years of business classes, he decided to start his own small business and owned and operated a candy kitchen in Venice Beach, which he sold after he began working in commercial property management. After a number of years managing and developing properties, in 1998 he became the Executive Director of the Canyon Theatre Guild, a local non-profit arts organization. Under his leadership, the Canyon Theatre Guild grew 1,000 percent, raised over a million dollars, and purchased and renovated its first permanent home, located on Main Street in Old Town Newhall.

TimBen has always believed that to preserve our democracy in America, every citizen should be involved in the political process. When the people of the Santa Clarita Valley were trying to get their own local political control by forming Canyon County in 1978, he ran for his first political office. Both the new county and TimBen were defeated. The people did not give up and in 1987 the City of Santa Clarita was born. TimBen became involved again when he returned to the Santa Clarita Valley and ran for City Council in 1996. Although he lost that election, in 2006 he applied for and was appointed to fill out then-Councilmember Cameron Smyth’s term when Mr. Smyth was elected to the State Assembly.

After serving for 16 months, TimBen kept his promise to the people (to not run in the 2008 election so that the people could decide on their representative without any candidates having advantage as an incumbent) and stepped down. He continued to serve the people by working as an advocate for the citizens and neighborhoods of the Santa Clarita Valley when he formed the Santa Clarita Neighborhood Coalition. In 2010 he ran for Council again and placed fifth out of 11 candidates. After continuing to serve as a community advocate for two more years, he was elected to the City Council in 2012.

During his term, TimBen would like to serve the citizens of Santa Clarita by working on three areas of emphasis: accountability, efficiency, and good planning. Accountability will include transparency, civility, ethics, and responsiveness to the needs of our citizens. Efficiency will mean the best government use of taxpayer dollars to provide services to create an even better place to live. Good planning is critical to assure that as we grow, we do not become a City that becomes so overcrowded, congested and dense that our environment becomes unhealthy.

TimBen has been married for over 20 years to local school teacher Ingrid, who has earned many accolades locally, including California Teacher of the Year. They have one daughter and reside in the Canyon Country area of Santa Clarita.
