Jeannine Rock

Hart High Class of 1970; Lockheed-Burbank, City of Burbank

Jeannine Rock, 68, passed away at her home in Vancouver, Washington, on November 23, 2020. She was born August 17, 1952, in Belvedere, Illinois, to Mary Jane and Everett Rock and grew up in Newhall, California. She attended Newhall Elementary, Placerita Junior High and William S. Hart High School, graduating in 1970.

She was a popular cheerleader at Hart and was named Prom Queen and Homecoming Princess. After graduation, Jeannine worked in the offices of Magic Mountain as part of the administrative team that opened the park. (Her name is one of those inscribed on "The Rock" at the park's main office.) She attended College of the Canyons for a short while before moving to the San Fernando Valley.

Jeannine worked as a clerk at Lockheed in Burbank for nearly 12 years and for the City of Burbank for 14 years, prior to her retirement in 2006. She lived with her mother, Mary Jane Rock, in Apple Valley for several years before they both moved to Vancouver in 2012. She enjoyed volunteering at a regional cat rescue and at Legacy Hospital, spending time in their garden, where she was especially proud of her lilies.

"She had a great sense of humor," said her brother, Frank. "She loved conversations with her nieces and nephews and she and Mom enjoyed going on cruises. She always loved being the youngest in the family and having two big brothers. And all her life, she loved animals, especially cats."

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane Rock; her father, Everett Rock; and stepfathers Joseph Riberdy and Marvin Lane. She is survived by her brothers; Thomas (Kibbey) Rock and Frank (Carol) Rock; sisters-in-law Tif Rock and Liz (Tom) Hartgrove; nephews Justin (Kerstin) Rock and Kerry (Colleen) Rock; nieces Sarah Rock and Casey (Tim) Christianson and great-nieces and nephews Sophia Rock, Sadie Christianson, Wyatt Christianson and Amelia Rock.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a memorial gathering will be scheduled in Washington in late spring or early summer. The family is establishing the Jeannine Rock Memorial Scholarship for a graduating senior in Wm. S. Hart High's Class of 2022. Donations may be made to the SCV Scholarship Foundation and sent to P.O. Box 220236, Newhall, CA 91322-0236, Attention: Jeannine Rock Memorial.
