Charles Clarence Chacanaca
Lifelong Newhall Resident, WWII Veteran (Army), Caltrans Worker


Charles Clarence Chacanaca, lifetime resident of Newhall, died Friday, May 14, 1993, following a long fight with cancer.

Born April 5, 1923, he grew up locally and returned here after his tour of duty in the Army during World War II to marry LaVerda Nicholas and raise their three sons. He retired from CalTrans in 1977, and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and working with wood.

Chacanaca is survived by wife LaVerda Chacanaca; mother Mabel Chacanaca; brother, Richard Chacanaca; sons Jack, Charles and John; daughters-in-law Dccna and Bonnie; and grandchildren Jack, Dovie, Christie, Heather, Jana, and Laurie.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of the Oaks. A viewing was held 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Eternal Valley Mortuary.
