November 3, 1928 — Newhall resident and out-of-work actor William S. Hart is in Chicago to finish writing his autobiography, tentatively titled "Boy and Man."

Original 8x10 print distributed to an unidentified newspaper by Underwood and Underwood, an early news photo service. Cutline (below) reads:

Chicago, Nov. 3-28 — Bill Hart, famous in the movies, is pictured in Chicago as he puts the finishing touches on his life's history as Boy and Man, the book he has been working on for the past year.

Watch Your Credit Line.

Houghton Mifflin published it as "My Life — East and West" in 1929 after making Hart cut 45,000 words out of it (Davis 2003:212). It still ran over 360 pages.
