Bob Walk, Philadelphia Phillies, baseball card, Fleer Corp., 1981.

Hart High graduate (Class of 1974) and College of the Canyons alumnus Bob Vernon Walk won the first game of the 1980 World Series (Oct. 14, 1980) for the Philadelphia Phillies, who went on to beat the Kansas City Royals in six games. A third-round draft pick by the Phillies in June 1976, Walk, a 1988 National League All-Star, went 105-81 with a 4.05 ERA in his 14-year career with the Phillies, Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates, with whom he signed in 1984 as a free agent. After he hung up his glove he stayed with the Pirates as the color man for the ball club's television and radio broadcast team.

Bob's grandfather, George Vernon "Bob" Walk, started the gas station in the Newhall Pass in the 1920s. His father, Vernon Walk, attended Newhall School in the 1930s when it was K-8. His brother Jeff (Class of 1978) and sister Nancy (Class of 1979) followed him at Hart.
