Contributors to the Historical Society's massive roofing and restoration project at Heritage Junction were honored during the Society's Christmas Open House on December 7, 2019. The project entailed not only the re-roofing of the Pardee House, Kingsburry House, Edison House, Ramona Chapel and Little Red Schoolhouse, but also the clearing of debris beneath the structures, termite eradication, electrical work and the installation of heating and air conditioning systems in the Pardee House and Saugus Train Station.

The project was spearheaded by board member Laurene Weste, who coordinated contractors and volunteers and was on-site all day, almost every day for several weeks. Weste received the Society's Golden Spike Award, which is presented to a Society member upon completion of a project.

Several other Society members rolled up their sleeves and provided invaluable assistance. President Alan Pollack recognized members Marcelo Cairo, Ann Stansell, Guy Horanberg and James McCarthy with "Outstanding Service" awards for their efforts.

The project could not have been completed without the financial support and leadership of the city of Santa Clarita. City Manager Ken Striplin, Assistant City Manager Frank Oviedo and Planning Director Tom Cole each received a "thank you" gift in the form of a golden spike.

Many contractors and materials suppliers went above and beyond the call of duty by donating services and providing deep discounts, for which they were recognized with "Outstanding Support" awards, including:

  • Dustyn Howard, Howard & Sons Roofing
  • Nicholas Frank, Nicholas Aire Systems
  • William Maxwell, Maxwell Electric
  • Cole Burr and Dennis Verner, Burrtec Waste Industries
  • Dave Davis, Dave Davis Plastering
  • Jason Davenport, Nordhagen & Dauaghters Exterminating Co.
  • Sherrye Ketchepaw, City of Santa Clarita
  • Tim Carter and team, Foster Construction
  • Glenn Adamick, JSB Development
  • Don Cruikshank, AV Equipment Rental
  • Josh Christensen and team, SW Regional Council of Carpenters
  • Lefty Randall, Conservation Station

On behalf of the City, Weste also presented certificates to the following: Best Care Fumigators, Devore Insulation, Serrano Development and Robert Lamoureux.
