Newhall Elementary School: Mrs. Frances Whitney's 2nd grade class of 1950 (1949-1950 school year). The photograph was probably made in the fall of 1949.

Located at 24607 Walnut Street, this is the fifth Newhall School, replacing the fourth school that burned down in the same location in 1939.

5x7 photograph donated by Sherie Lynn Caldwell (Gustafson), who is one of the children in the photo.

According to a report in The Signal (inset), Mrs. Whitney took the second grade class on a field trip to Helm Bakery in Los Angeles. It was a popular destination for grade school classes throughout the 1950s and '60s.
