Dear Mr. Stanger:·
The Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society is in the process of
restoring a Mogul M-4 steam locomotive to operating condition. This
locomitive was built by Alco in 1900 for Southern Pacific. It was
retired in 1957 and sold to Gene Autry who donated it to our Society
in 1981.
We plan to initially operate Mogul 1629 in the Wm. S. Hart Park in
Newhall. However we would like to be able to take it on the main
line eventually. We would like to know what your policy is in regard
to historical steam locomotives running on your line. Can you tell us
what criteria we would have to meet to do this?
Also we would like to know what would be involved to connect our
track to the main line at Hart Park in Newhall. Is there any
assistance that Metrolink can give us in making such a connection or
in donating any surplus track materials or equipment?
We look forward to hearing from you. We look forward to a
mutually advantageous relationship between our Santa Clarita Valley
organization and Metrolink.
Sincerely,
(-- - ~ ~.:._
