PRELJMINARY PROJECT PROPOSAL
santa Cladta Valley Hlnodcal Society
Mo&w Engine # 1629 ana; Histodcal Structures
En,Sne #1629:
Several sources of funding are available,Jor recovecy and restoration of historical
locomotives and related rail stock. Among the most accessible are; lbe Smtth.sontcm
Instttutton, Washington D.C.; The Henry Ford Museum. Highland Park, Michigan: and
'· the Union Pacific Railroad, Omaha, Nebraska. Although I have not as of yet contacted
the fallowing organization, the California State Historical Society may also have funding
available.,
Funding grants are contingent on several factors, among them are the 1} total
funds available, 2) the type of project and 3} the historical and/or cultural s1gn1flcance of
the project. Your engine restoration project easily meets the second and third
requirements. The two most important factor5. however. are the organi.Zatlon requesting
such funds and the presentation of the proposal itself. Again. The Santa Clarita Valley
Historical Society is tlrmly established. with a history of completed projects. With the
above information and .. history" 1 will be able to organize and present a proposal in a
professional manner. which will greatly increase your possibilities for additional funds.

Structures:
Although you have the majority of the information necessary for·the inclusion of all
structures on the National Register of Historic places, inclusion on the register is a must
for the continuing preservatlon and protection of the buildings. It would require no
more than 3-5 hours per structure to complete the necessary Nalicmal Register of I listorlc
Place.~ Registration Forms (10-900a). These forms include both exterior and interior
photographs, supplemented by a Resource Inventory. for each tndivtdual structure
involved in the project; Completion of these forms, QY a competent public historian.
allow the most efficient means to research and preserve each structure's historical.
cultural, and architectural significance to the Santa Clarita Valley area.
