BACKGROUND

Donor's Vis~ion for Newhall -

Bringing 1629 to operational restoration would
create excitement and tourists to help revitalize
/Downtown Newhall.

Believed that the donations of he, his brother,
and sister-in-law, would be the critical seed money
t6 get the project started.

Concer'ned that the Society might try to divert
the funds to another project. Asked that special
account be setup so that the Treasurer and N. Harris
would co-sign.

Asked that the donations be used to restore the
Mogul. 1629 to operating condition. If any funds
remain after it is completed they should be used to
lay track in the Park.

0 1. "Move project along faster by sending the
boiler into the shop for the repair work."

- There should be a labor cost
savings for Dixon since there would be no travel
or tool-loading time (25-30% of labor costs).

- This would permit us to have easier
access to work on the running gear and be able to
finish the overall project in a shorter time.

- The boi !er can be made ready to
move in four weeks.

2. "Bui Id a t~mporary shed to protect the
locomotive from damage from the weather."

- This suggestion would help speed
the project to completion since it would let us work
through winter rains and summer heat.
- The appearance of the project from
San Fernando Road would be markedly improved.
