Volunteer Recognition Event - Scheduled for August 24 will include ice cream social and
potluck. Laurene volunteered to chair the volunteer recognition portion and Cynthia and Anne
volunteered to chair ice cream end. Pat Salatore motioned to hold Volunteer Recognition on
Aug 24. Seconded. Motion passed.

California Gold Discovery Sesquicentennial - Carol made mention of a State-held event to
celebrate the discovery of gold. She reminded the CGDS committee about the first finding of
gold in Placerita Canyon. They said they knew about it, but the governor had already issued an
Executive Order and press release with different information.
The Thomas Bros map company, which is participating in the four year observance, said Jerry
Reynolds had prepared material which included the Placerita Gold discovery. The Society is
being consulted for future publications.
* Anne suggested that we ask Myrna Reynolds for a blanket release on Jerry's writings. Carol
will check into this.

NEW BUSINESS

Canyon Theatre Guild - The Canyon Theatre Guild has plans to purchase a historical building
downtown to renovate into a theater. The problem is that two of the buildings on the property in
question has been deemed historical, one of which the Guild would like to tear down for
parking. Carol suggested that the SCVHS needs to look at the blue building in question and
made a decision on how the board wants to handle this.

Jauregui Ranch - Paul Kreutzer brought up the possibility of acquiring some things on the
Juragei ranch before it is vacated. One is a "huge" sign that reads "34th Saugus Rodeo". Paul
mentioned that Jerry Reynolds had seen the sign and confirmed it's authenticity. Paul will
further investigate.

-Friends of Hart Park - Steve Schafhausen, Friends of Hart Park, suggested co-sponsoring a
combined event such as "Hart of the West". This suggestion will be added to possible use as a
first collaboration with SCVHS.

Curator - How do we replace Jerry? The answer is we can never replace Jerry, however a job
description will be written defining the curator's duties. Carol will look this.
