SANTA CLARITA VALLEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Minutes from meeting of April 22, 1996
Meeting was called to order at 7:20 p.m. by President Carol Rock. Quorum present - C attached
sign in sheet.
Secretary's Report - minutes corrected by Carol Rock on her copy. Recording Secretary not
present.
Corresponding Secretary's Report- Cynthia Neal Harris read letter from LaJuana Woelke to
thank SCVHS for Service Award.
Jim Yaple "Buffalo Jim" received thank you for roof donation, in reponse of the thank you note
and updated what he's been up do.
Joel Frazier - Saw the tv show w/Huell Howser and he was concerned about the location of the
Oak of the Golden Dream in Placerita Canyon Park vs. the Golden Oak Ranch. Filed for
information.
LucilJe Young, 35 year member of the San Fernando Historical Society is moving to Santa
Clarita and wants to join SCVHS.
0 Paul K. asked that a thank you be sent to Bonnie and Mike DeLong for rail painting and window
washing. LDS needs thank you for weeds removed for OTD. He wiH give corresponding
secretary the addresses.
Treasurer's Report - Treasurer not present - no report. $3,500 was made at Cowboy Poetry.
Tesoro del Valle - May 1, 1996 is deadline for SCVHS to decide to accept or decline ofter.
Task force is to advise.board. Carol R. received info on Saturday before meeting with adohe
restoration specialist.
Mel Green reviewed adobe buildings and recommends saving 5 of the 7. The stone with Harry
Cary's Brand will be saved. The donation and building will only be available when the project
has been approved and begun. No date projected yet. John Mann felt the SCVHS was being
pushed and requested more time to review project donation because ofJack of time (OTD and
job). Carol is to call Tim Collins to ask for more time.
Grant committee - April 8, 1996 Pat S. and Paul K. met with Rick Putnam of the City of SC for
inforn1ation for grant money. It was suggested the SCVHS go directly to the City Council for
funds for the Pardee House roof. Carol R. said that JoAnne Darcy has a project in mind and ask
SCVHS to wait until she has time to work on it for roof.
Olde Towne Days - No meeting on April 27th, but all are asked to help set up. Saturday night
campout needs help setting up also.
15% of all money from Hart Park property must go to LA County Parks and Rec including pony
rides and Gold camp. Very careful records need to be kept of those events and money to LA
