Newhall, Calif. April 11, 1923.

    Regular meeting of Newhall Chamber of Commerce called to order at 8 P.M. in Hap-a-lan Hall by President Swall.
    Thirty-eight members present.
    Minutes of previous meeting read and approved.
    The Decoration for Rodeo Day Committee reported through Fred R. Lamkin that the business men of the town had promised to decorate their buildings. He also reported that it would cost $175 to buy decorations for the streets but that a decorator offered to put up the decorations on April 21st and maintain same until April 30th for the sum of $40.
    Mr. McMannus reported that the Street Sign Committee had interviewed the State Highway Commissioner's representative in Los Angeles. This official said that so far the Commission had refused to permit street signs to be placed over the highway but that he would accept a request for a permit and forward same to the Commission and that a reply should be received within three weeks. It was decided to wait until hearing from this request before doing anything further in regard to the signs.
    The Secretary said that a complete report would be made by the Committee on Letter head and seal at the next meeting.
    A committee from Happy Valley, headed by Charles F. Lercher, presented the difficulties that had been encountered in trying to secure electricity for domestic use in that section. As there seemed to be very little definite information on the subject it was deemed best to postpone action by the Chamber until the Committee secured more definite data. At this time a motion was passed assuring the people of Happy Valley that the Newhall Chamber of Commerce was in hearty accord with them and that all assistance possible would be rendered.
    P.C. Miller reported that so far nothing had been done toward removing street trees and that before taking the matter up he would like to get the sentiment of the property owners along the boulevard. Those present at the meeting signified a desire to have the trees removed.
    A motion was carried that from now on the regular meetings would be held every four weeks and directors meetings every two weeks commencing from April 11th.
    Motion passed that the decorating of the streets for Rodeo Week be hired done for the sum of $40.
    Mr. McMannus reported that the building of the Canning Factory and Ice Plant would commence just as soon as the Company secured a permit from the Corporation Commissioner, which he hoped would be within a few days.
    Meeting adjourned to May 9th at usual hour and place.
